You can’t, unless your a hunter. Or you can buy “small” pets, try in the AH they are very cheap usually.
There are other classes that have combat pets, shaman summon elementals, warlocks have demonic minions, deathknights have ghouls. If you are not one of those classes, then you are limited to some of the quest reward or looted “use” pets. These usually have 1 to 3 uses/charges, and are of specific level for the area in which they are found. ..and if we where to stretch the definition of pet, you could always become an engineer and make exploding sheep.
i believe that some engineers can make it also some items can summon some like the sword in sunken temple its a rair drop but can summon a dragon or the barov ring
The only pets you can get as a non-pet class (hunter, warlock, death knight, shaman), the only pets you can get to fight with you are expendable. Meaning they only have so many charges. A popular choice is a Mechanical Yeti, which I think has 10 charges and doesn’t do much damage unless against lower levels.
Another choice is to become an Engineer and making “pets” such as Explosive Sheep or Mechanical Whelp.
If that’s not what you’re looking for, I’d suggest making another toon in a pet class.
If you’re a druid, you can turn yourself into an animal. If you want a mount, you’ll have to wait til level 30. Otherwise, you’ll have to be a hunter if you want one that will help you fight.
